Some of you moms and students might be wondering why I purchase your first math notebook for you. There are several reasons. First, I want everyone using the same kind of notebook, and I much prefer graph paper for doing math homework. The vertical and horizontal lines make it easier to keep your work neat. Neatness is often the key to working an Algebra problem correctly. Besides that, if you need to draw a figure or make a diagram, the graph paper really helps. When we get to chapters on graphing, you can quickly sketch a Cartesian coordinate plane right in your notebook. Your ellipses and hyperbolas stand a greater chance of looking like ellipses and hyperbolas. These notebooks also have a handy pocket in the front for holding the all important syllabus or Chapter Study Guide. So for neatness and convenience, we will all start out using the same kind of notebook. (Colors may vary.) The cost is $4 each, and you may include this in the tuition check you bring on the first day of class, or you may simply bring me $4 on the first day of class. Most of you will use up this first notebook before the school year concludes. When that happens, you are on your own for the next one.
